DEAR ALEX: How Should I Go About Asking for a New Phone?
Dear Alex: How should I bring up wanting a new phone? The one I have is almost two years old and it’s rough. I’m grateful for everything I have, and asking for something is big. Any advice on how to bring it up and ask?

Dear Wondering : Bringing something like this up can be tough and maybe even nerve racking. When you do ask your parents about this, you should make sure that you bring it up slowly. This is something very big to ask for and you don’t want to rush into it too quickly. As far as actually asking for a new phone, there are several things you can do to convince your parents to get you a new phone. Here are some of the best ways:
You have to think about the best reasons why you need a new phone. Maybe your old phone doesn’t work well, or it’s just time to upgrade. If you want your parents to get you a new phone, you have to have good reasons why you need a new phone.
Responsibility. As odd as this may sound, one of the best ways to ask for a new phone is by not asking at all, but by demonstrating responsibility. If your parents know that they can trust you to be responsible, then they will be more likely to want to get you a new phone.
Offer to put some of your own money towards it. If you put your own money towards a phone, even if it is only half the cost, your parents would probably be more willing to help you buy a new one.
Promise to take extremely good care of it. No parent wants to come home to find that you have either lost your phone or destroyed it, and they certainly don’t want to have to pay for another one. So make sure you gain their trust and promise you’ll take care of it.
