Goodbye Mrs. McFarland

Nadine McFarland has taught for six years, one year in Scott County, and five years at Lafayette. During her five years at Lafayette, she has taught Geometry and Advanced Geometry. Mrs. McFarland was introduced to Lafayette during a part of her teacher training at our school, during which she took a liking to the school and its students. McFarland told The Times, “I did part of my student teaching practicum at Lafayette and fell in love with it.” She added, “I had to apply and was lucky to be offered the job. I love Lafayette, and it will always hold a special place in my heart.” Though Mrs. McFarland has enjoyed her time at Lafayette, she will not be returning for the 2024-2025 school year. She plans to continue teaching at other schools and hopes to tutor some of her current students virtually. She has inspired many students and teachers, and Lafayette will miss her dearly.

The Times asked Mrs. McFarland what she will miss most about Lafayette. Mrs. McFarland said, “…the amazing math department, the staff, and the wonderful students that make Lafayette.” Mrs. McFarland expressed that she highly enjoyed working with her fellow teachers and working with the students in each of her classes. The Times interviewed Mr. Griffith, a current programming teacher and previous math teacher at Lafayette who worked closely with Mrs. McFarland. Mr. Griffith said, “I appreciated very much how much she cared for her kids. If her kids were ever in trouble, she would always go to bat for her kids.”

Mrs. McFarland said, “I will also miss watching my students learn and grow from the beginning of the school year until the end of the school year and their high school career.” She adds that she enjoys watching her students learn and progress alongside each other throughout the school year, saying, “I love watching my kiddos mature over the years and become amazing young adults.” Mrs. McFarland has greatly impacted numerous students during her time teaching at our school.

The Times also interviewed some of Mrs. McFarland’s students to see what they thought of their teacher. Logan Gwynn, a sophomore at Lafayette, said, “I loved how funny and relatable she was and how easily she connected with the class.” Katelyn Conrad, another student of Mrs. McFarland, told The Times, ”She was a very loving person, and I learned a lot from her.”

During her time at Lafayette, Mrs. McFarland greatly impacted many students and lifted up many of the people in our school. After leaving Lafayette, Mrs. McFarland plans on moving to Florida with her family to continue her teaching career. McFarland told The Times, “I plan to continue teaching and hope to be able to tutor my students virtually.” We wish Mrs. McFarland the absolute best in her future endeavors and thank her for all she’s done to help Lafayette and its students.
