Are you interested in photography? Well, lucky for you, Alexander Alsalihi has started a new Photography Club at Lafayette High School, open to all experience levels. The club meets every Wednesday for an hour in room 208. Alsalihi is passionate about photography and is excited to teach others about it.
The Photography Club is open to everybody, no matter their experience level. Whether you have never picked up a camera or are an experienced photographer, all are welcome. If you love photography or want to get into photography, the Photography Club is a great outlet to practice your skills and learn more about photography.
Alsalihi founded the Photography Club to help inspire and provide resources for enthusiastic photographers. Alsalihi told The Times, “I started the Photography Club at Lafayette to help aspiring photographers who, like me, struggled to access dedicated cameras.“ Alsalihi wants to give photographers at all levels opportunities by giving them access to DSLR (Digital Single-Lens Reflex) cameras. Most students don’t have access to these cameras due to the price. Alsalihi believes that with the proper resources, new and current photographers can start a journey of growing their photography skills.
The Photography Club meets every Wednesday in room 208 at 3:15. Alsalihi stated, “In a typical Photography Club meeting, there will be a brief lesson followed by plenty of time for students to explore with the club’s cameras…”. He wants the photography club to be a place where people can enjoy time with friends but also take pictures on their own and hone their skills.
The sponsor for the Photography Club, Travis Townsend, is an art teacher here at Lafayette. He said when Alsalihi approached him, he quickly agreed to sponsor the Photography Club. In an interview with Mr. Townsend, he states, “I foresee this as being student-driven, so this year, we’ll see how it goes and what the students want to do.” He is very confident in Alsalihi and believes he can lead the club to success.
