In a bustling classroom at Lafayette High School, an aspiring 16-year-old filmmaker is making waves with his ambitious student movie Past & Future
As filming gears up, Matthew Rowe maintains a positive atmosphere, fosters collaboration, and keeps spirits high. The Film Club is exciting, and the students are eager to see Past & Future come to life. Sponsored by Mr. Gross, a beloved teacher, and the Film Club sponsor, the project is quickly gaining momentum among students, thanks to its heartfelt story. With Gross’ support and a talented cast, this project promises to showcase young talent and creativity.
The film, a time-bending adventure, tells the story of a boy who travels back in time and meets his father as a teenager. The two bond and become best friends, creating a mix of nostalgia, drama, and heartwarming moments. The writer of this story leads as both director and writer, and his vision for the movie has excited the entire Film Club.
Jalen Moore is among the cast members who play one of the lead roles. “I’ve never been this excited about a project,” Moore told The Times. “The way the script dives into how our relationships with our parents evolve is something I think everyone can relate to. Plus, the time travel aspect adds such a cool twist.”
Moore raved about the pre-production. “It’s about family, friendship, and seeing your parents in a whole new light. The idea of meeting my father at my age and connecting with him—there’s something really exciting about that.”
Though filming has not yet started, the pre-production stage has already started, with students meeting weekly to discuss scheduling, character development, and the logistics of pulling off a time-travel story on a student film budget.
Gross, who has been a guiding hand for many Film Club projects, believes this one has the potential to stand out. “What Matthew is doing here is ambitious. He’s taken a simple idea and turned it into something heartfelt and imaginative. The whole club is rallying behind him.”
With weekly Film Club meetings on Wednesdays, the team is ironing out the final details before cameras start rolling. Rowe is confident that the cast and crew will be ready to bring his vision to life. “Everyone’s contributing, whether helping with the script, finding props, or suggesting locations. We’re making sure that when we start filming, everything is in place,” told The Times.
The Film Club plans to promote the project throughout the school and online, hoping to attract a wider audience for the eventual premiere. According to Moore, “Even though we haven’t started filming yet, the energy and enthusiasm are already off the charts.”
The countdown to filming is on, and anticipation for Past & Future is growing. As Rowe and his team continue to prepare, it’s clear that this is more than just a school project—it’s a passion-driven creative journey that could mark the beginning of something extraordinary.
