Halloween is quickly approaching, so it’s time to start thinking about costumes. Everyone needs a costume, whether you plan on trick-or-treating, going to a Halloween party, or just staying home and handing out candy. The Times has many different costumes for boys, girls, duos, and groups.
If you want a more masculine costume, the first costume idea is to dress as a hunter. To create this costume, all you need is an all-camo outfit. This is a straightforward option. Another idea is superheroes. There are Batman and Spiderman, which are two easy ideas. For Batman, all you need is an all-black outfit with a black mask and a Batman logo, which can just be cut out and taped onto a black shirt.
The next costume idea is to dress as a prisoner. This costume is another simple one. All you need to be a prisoner is an orange outfit. This costume could quickly become a duo costume with the other person being a police officer. Lastly, you could be Woody from Toy Story. This costume is a little more complicated and requires a cowboy hat, boots, a pair of jeans, and a yellow button-up shirt.
One idea for a more feminine costume is to dress up as a Girl Scout. For this idea, you can wear a skirt, a white shirt, a green sash, and optionally a green hat. Another idea is to dress up as a cowgirl. All you would need is a cowgirl hat, jeans/jean shorts, a plaid shirt, and a pair of boots, but a pair of tennis shoes would work just fine as well. This next costume idea is to dress up as a lifeguard. There are a couple of different ways you could go about this outfit, one of which is wearing a red bathing suit with a red hat and a whistle. Another way to dress up as a lifeguard is to wear white shorts, flip-flops, and a red sweatshirt that says lifeguard. To achieve this look, you can easily tape a lifeguard logo onto the red sweatshirt.
Another costume idea is to dress up as Dorthy from The Wizard of Oz. To complete this outfit you will need a blue dress, preferably one with a white and blue plaid pattern, but a plain blue dress would work too, you would also need a white shirt underneath and red shoes. Then for your hair, do two braids with red ribbons on the ends. This last costume idea can be easily turned into a group costume, and it is minions. This idea requires overalls, a yellow shirt, and a yellow beanie.
The Time has some duo costume ideas as well. First off, you could be the Statue of Liberty and a tourist. For this costume, one person will dress as the Statue of Liberty, and an easy way to do this is by dressing in a similar color to the statue, a torch, and a crown. You only need an “I Heart New York City” shirt and binoculars for the tourist. Next, you could be Gru and Vector from Despicable Me. This costume is perfect if you and your friend want to do something fun. For Gru, you need a gray zip-up, a black and white striped scarf, and a bald cap. For Vector, all you need is his iconic orange tracksuit. Lastly, you can be Mario and Luigi. This costume can be as simple or complex as you would want it to be. The simplest way would be to have one friend wear red and the other all green.
For big groups of friends, group costumes are the way to go. The first costume idea is to dress as pirates. For girls, you could wear a white dress with a red head scarf and a sword. You can swap the dress for boys for a white button-down shirt. Another idea is Ninja Turtles. This costume requires everyone to wear an all-green outfit with different color bandanas and a sword. The final costume idea is Alvin and the Chipmunks. Everyone can simply wear the color of the character they want to be and add animal ears.
