Have you ever wanted to audition for a Lafayette theatre production? The most recent auditions are for the upcoming musical, “Anastasia”. Sadly, if you were looking forward to auditions, the cast list has already come out. While there isn’t a chance to join Anastasia, there is an upcoming production called “Anything Goes” that you can audition for. Here is a sneak peek at what the audition process looks like at Lafayette.
The audition process involves many steps and lasts multiple weeks including the auditions, callbacks, and then the publishing of the cast list. Lafayette auditions are open to anyone interested in being a part of a Lafayette theatre production. The auditions span four days: two days for the singing portion and another two days for the dancing and acting portion. They take place in the Beeler Auditorium after school and typically last till 5:30.
Auditions can be a lot of work, but it can also be exciting for newcomers to Lafayette. They get to become a part of the Lafayette theatre community and the more experienced students get to welcome newcomers. Logan Gwynn, a junior who is a part of the Lafayette Theatre community, told The Times, “They [Lafayette Theatre community] are very welcoming.”.
Typically, auditions can be nerve-wracking and strike anxiety in students. But, Gwynn stated, “They do a really good job of preparing you.”. He added, “They are never gonna throw you out to the wolves.” The Lafayette auditions strive to be welcoming and to reduce stress in the auditioning process.
After the first audition, there are callbacks. Callbacks are after the first week of initial auditions. Callbacks are used for the director to bring people back that they want to see more of. Sophomore Blake Martin told The Times, “Callbacks take about a week and then we wait for the cast list.” .Waiting for the cast list can be the most stressful part of the audition. There is a lot of anticipation to see what role you might get.
The Lafayette audition process is made to be welcoming for students interested in being in a Lafayette production. It not only teaches you about theatre but it admits you into a community of people who share the same passion as you and people who are great role models and leaders in the theatre community.
