Mr. Hudson is an English teacher at Lafayette High School. He is originally from Lexington, Kentucky, and attended Paul Laurence Dunbar High School in 1996. He is a caring teacher who looks out for his students and makes sure to help them if they need it. He teaches English 1, English 3, and AP Language and Composition.
Mr. Hudson attended the University of Kentucky for Real Estate/Business, Eastern Kentucky University for an English bachelor’s degree, and Morehead State for a master’s degree in teaching. Before joining Lafayette, he taught in an all-boys Catholic school in New Orleans, Louisiana, and was the English department chair of Jefferson County High School in Florida.
Before becoming a teacher, Mr. Hudson worked as a firefighter in Kentucky. He shared with The Times about his change of careers: “I loved the brotherhood and excitement of being a firefighter, but I had to see a lot of bad stuff. It was dangerous and unpredictable, but it sure was a lot of fun!” He explained that teaching is much more peaceful and gives him time to spend with his family and work on other hobbies.
Mr. Hudson has an English cream Golden Retriever named Penny. He loves taking her on walks, playing at the dog park, and hiking in the Red River Gorge. Penny also loves to swim and play with other dogs, and she especially loves kids.
Wesley Howell, a junior at Lafayette and one of Mr. Hudson’s students, told The Times, “I enjoyed our English 3 class. My favorite thing we have read was ‘The Raven’ by Edgar Allan Poe and ‘Walden’ by Henry Thoreau. I like how engaged I can get in class; how Mr. Hudson teaches makes me visualize their words and I always do well on my tests.”
Mr. Hudson has found a home here at Lafayette. He was awarded tenure and plans on staying with us for a very long time. He told The Times, “I love it here. My colleagues are incredibly supportive, and I love helping the students learn daily.” We’re happy to have dedicated teachers like him in our Lafayette community.
