With the Christmas season quickly approaching everyone is looking for fun and festive things to do with their friends and family. Here are some ideas that you can do here in Lexington. These things range in price with some of them being free.
A perfect experience for the Christmas season is ice skating at Triangle Park. It costs $18 per person for 60 minutes of skating. The rink is surrounded by shops and restaurants, so you can visit as well to escape the winter chill. It’s a fun activity, and while you’re downtown, you can also view the beautiful Christmas tree downtown, which is a great place to take some cute Christmas pictures or just get into the Christmas spirit.
Another Christmas activity is visiting the Southern Lights. This is the perfect activity if it’s cold outside because you don’t have to leave your car. This experience is open from November 29 through December 31, from 5:30 to 10:00 pm, costing $35 per car. The Southern Lights are a magical sight; throughout 3 miles, millions of lights are set up in glorious formations that transport you into a winter wonderland. Also at the end of your trip, you can take a stop at their Holiday Village where you can take pictures with Santa, see their animal farms, as well as shopping, and more.
If you are looking for an activity to do inside, then the Bluegrass Youth Ballet’s (BYB) performance of The Nutcracker is perfect. This show is done in only one act making it great for people with young children or siblings. BYB’s take on this Christmas classic is fun and easy to follow for people who have never watched a ballet. There are two different shows one being on December 20th at 7 pm, and the other being on December 21 at 2 pm. Tickets $20-$30, and can be purchased on bluegrassyouthballet.org.
Lastly, while you are doing some Christmas shopping at the mall you could go and get some pictures with Santa. Fayette Mall has pictures with Santa available all throughout the month of December. It is the perfect way to celebrate that will last a lifetime with friends or family. This is great if you have little siblings because they can meet Santa and create magical memories together.
Whether you are trying to make some holiday plans or you are just bored and want something to do to get into the spirit; ice skating, Christmas light shows, and The Nutcracker ballet are all good options. They are perfect for family and friends of all ages to do together. Happy Holidays!
