From elementary schools to high schools, libraries are deeply important for all students. They encourage students to read and, not just that, they offer the opportunity to read different genres. They also let students have a quiet place where they can get work done or take a test.
Brayden Voglesong, a freshman at Lafayette, says “I just need a relatively quiet place in the mornings to go to.” Like many other students, Brayden enjoys going to the library in the morning instead of the cafeteria because of the calmer environment.
Sienna Montgomery, a freshman at Lafayette, was asked in an interview with the Times, “Why do you decide to go to the library in the mornings?” Montgomery said, “Because the cafeteria is too loud!” Another Lafayette student, Rrita Maloku, a junior, stated, “I feel like the library is more comfortable.”.
This shows how Lafayette students like going to the library for the environment. They like the quiet comfortable environment rather than the loud and crowded environment in the cafeteria where students typically go before the school day begins.
The Lafayette library is very useful for students in many ways, but what improvements or changes to the library could make the perfect environment for Lafayette students? Maloku said, “Maybe make it a little bigger? I feel like a lot of people always come in here and it gets very crowded easily.” Montgomery said, “More comfortable seating,” and Voglesong said, “A couple more tables.” Students all agree that the library can get crowded sometimes and it would be helpful for it to have more seating options.
The library is also used for students to check out books. This gives students access to books no matter what their circumstances are.
When asked in an interview with The Times, Ms. Schoff, the Lafayette school librarian, said, “Some freshman and sophomore English classes have their students read the first 15 minutes of the block, so they are ‘required’ to have a book then. Many students check out books for that purpose.” This is great because in these English classes the students are encouraged to read books that they are interested in.
The Lafayette library is a great place to use to your advantage whether you need a quiet place to read or get work done or a place to hang out with friends before class starts.
