Lafayette’s AP and Dual Credit night is a significant event for those interested in taking Advanced Placement (AP) or dual credit classes. The College Board created AP courses to assist in their preparation for higher education. AP classes assist students in developing skills such as time management, critical thinking, and scholarly writing. Dual credit is a special type of enrollment through BCTC that allows students to earn both college and high school credit at the same time. Completing dual credit counts towards students’ high school diplomas as well as their college degrees. These classes can be challenging but they are an amazing learning opportunity. If students are willing to do the hard work, they should be able to succeed in these classes.
On Monday, January 27th from 6-7 pm, an informational night will be held for students and their parents who are planning on taking AP or dual credit courses. Counselor Tracey Lilly says, “A representative from each AP and dual credit course will be present to provide information and to answer any questions.” For each course students and parents are interested in, they will meet in the teachers’ classroom for about ten minutes to learn about what to expect and what it will be like in comparison to other classes. All of the classes that will be shared are listed in the LHS Course Directory.
When considering AP classes, it is important to know that it’s not just more work. It requires a higher level of thinking to do well. Students should be prepared for in-depth analysis of sources and very tough problems and concepts. AP classes are open to all grades in high school. They examine further subjects that appeal to them and learn to reach their creativity and problem-solving skills to address challenges.
Dual credit programs are open for high school juniors and seniors. The courses offer the opportunity to take a college-level course for high school and college credit. It offers many opportunities, career pathways, and courses that students need for their future major.
These programs are great opportunities for a better future. It’s a good way to prepare for college and it allows students to earn more college credits. Students can learn so much from being in these courses. If a student has the chance to take these classes, they should definitely consider it, and AP and Dual Credit night is a great place to start and find out what they need to know.
