Ms. Harris is one of Lafayette's assistant principals. Ms. Harris has been in education for 13 years and has always wanted to be a leader. She taught various middle school math and science classes in Montgomery County, Scott County, and Clark County. Then, she worked as a counselor at Leestown Middle School for one year and then returned to the classroom to teach 7th-grade science at Bryan Station Middle School, where she served as the science department chair.
Now, she has worked for Lafayette for two years but has been with Fayette County Public Schools for five years. Her commitment to education even led her to return to her hometown of Mt. Sterling for a year to teach at McNabb Middle School as an assistant principal, demonstrating her commitment to her community. She now sees Lafayette and Lexington as her home.
Ms. Harris is caring but can be stern when students act up or get into trouble. She has made a big impact on many students by being someone they can feel safe confiding in. If something is going on in school, she builds trust by listening to students, ensuring they feel heard, and offering guidance when they need it most. Her ability to balance kindness with discipline shows how much she cares about and wants the best for her students.
Freshman Isabella Ormsby told The Times, “Ms. Harris helped me want to do better in school and is one of the only people I feel comfortable talking to.” This connection with students makes Ms. Harris a vital part of the school community.
According to Ms. Harris, one of the hardest parts of her job is ensuring she can effectively support everyone and create a positive environment for all students. However, the best part is interacting with students daily, building relationships, and watching them succeed. She believes in supporting students and teachers to help them grow academically and personally. Her job includes handling student discipline, evaluating teachers, planning instruction, and developing curriculum. She works tirelessly to ensure that Lafayette maintains a high standard of excellence and that every student feels supported.
She hopes to teach students valuable life lessons that will help them beyond high school. Her dedication and experience make her an important part of our school community. She is well-liked by students and staff alike. Ms. Harris tells The Times that if there were one thing she could tell students, it would be to “Always strive to make tomorrow a better day!”
