It is no secret that high school students love caffeine. Between long school days and time-consuming after-school activities, high school students are naturally looking for some way to get enough energy to power through their day and keep them active. Energy drinks like Red Bull or Monster are no strangers to high school students. However, a current student favorite is the energy drink, Alani Nu.
Students can choose from many different energy drinks on the market to get their caffeine. Drinks like Celsius, Monster Energy, and Red Bull are very popular, but how do they compare to Alanis? First, looking at the amount of caffeine these drinks have, Celsius and Alani are the same, with 200mg of caffeine. Monsters have about 160 mg of caffeine, and surprisingly, Red Bull has the lowest amount of caffeine concentration out of these energy drinks, with only 114 mg.
Nutritionist Carrie Forrest says, “Alani Energy Drinks contain many chemical ingredients that may or may not be safe to consume regularly.” This is a concern for many parents because the drinks contain lots of chemicals as well as large amounts of caffeine, especially for teenagers, since the recommended amount is only 100 mg daily.
But, when looking at different flavors, Alani’s has 12, such as Pink Slush, Strawberry Sunrise, Breezeberry, and many more. Celsius has many different lines of drinks and products, but focusing mainly on their basic energy drink line, they have 30 different flavors. Monster has 30, and Red Bull has 13 different flavors. So when looking at variety, Monster Energy and Celsius are sure to have a flavor that is appealing.
The Times surveyed almost 70 different students at Lafayette High School. Out of the 12 different flavors, the Pink Slush was the most popular flavor with an average of 3.9/5 stars and 24 students giving it five stars overall. The most common least favorite flavor was Cosmic Stardust, which had an average rating of 2.65/5 stars, and 15 people gave it one star.
Overall, energy drinks can be perceived as a helpful tool for high school students, providing them with extra energy needed to keep up with their busy schedules. However, these drinks contain high levels of caffeine and lots of chemicals, which can cause doubts about whether or not they should be consumed regularly.
