On this day in 1989, one of the most famous pop artists in the world, Taylor Swift, was born. Many fans and friends of Swift are celebrating her birthday in many ways: creating songs for her, ‘tweeting’ her a happy birthday, and ‘tagging’ Swift’s Instagram account in their posts.

Taylor Swift was born in Pennsylvania and moved to Nashville, Tennessee when she was 14 years old. She also developed an interest in singing publicly when she was 14. She became the youngest artist ever signed by the Sony/ATV Music publishing house, which published a variety of her famous albums. Fearless became the best-selling album of 2009 in the United States and it won 4 Grammy Awards, making Swift the youngest Album of the Year winner.

Swift was first influenced by her grandmother’s songs, Disney film soundtracks, and everyday songs she heard on the radio. Swift was interested in country music and was drawn to it by Shania Twain, Faith Hill, and the Dixie Chicks, who were all given the title of “the great female country artists of the ’90s.” In her high school years, Swift listened to bands such as Dashboard Confessional, Fall Out Boy, and other famous rock bands of that time.

At the beginning of 2016, Swift had sold more than 40 million albums, had gotten more than 130 million downloads online, and was one of the top 5 artists with the highest worldwide digital sales. Swift’s albums Taylor SwiftFearlessSpeak NowRed, and 1989 have all sold over 4 million copies in the US.
