As students at Lafayette, students’ job is to listen and learn from the teachers and staff in this building. However, not many of the students truly understand the privilege it is to be able to have a teacher. Disrespect for teachers and towards the concept of education is extremely common in many high schools across the United States, especially in Lafayette High School.
To be a student is a privilege. You’ll become a better student and person if you realize that school and an education is a great privilege that not everyone has. According to Unicef, an organization focused on child rights, 175 million children world-wide are not enrolled in primary school. Your education should not be taken for granted, and as students we should learn to appreciate school for what it is.
Even though school is considered a privilege, many students may argue that the work-load and the stressors that come with an education aren’t worth the trouble. This stress could lead to students lashing out at teachers, and in turn flunking out of school. These students need to realize that our teachers are here to help us learn, something that should never be taken for granted. To be able to come to school and learn every day in a safe environment is something that not everyone can say they have.
As students at Lafayette, we should strive to support our teachers and their ability to help us succeed in school and in life. We should prioritize our education, and learn how to respect our peers around us. That includes students and staff, not just friends. Coming to Lafayette High School every day is a great thing, and it’s time we as a student body start to realize that and make changes in our behavior to fix this issue.
