Lafayette Winter Sports Recap
January 19, 2018
As you all know, Lafayette went on winter break from December 19th-January 3rd, and then had another little winter break as we had many snow days. Although school wasn’t in session, the sports teams never take a break. Boys and Girls Basketball participated in events during the winter break and snow days.
BOYS BASKETBALL:
The boys basketball team went 8-3 while on the break (plus I included 1 game before the break, and 3 games after the break.) which included winning the “Peoples Exchange Bank Holiday Invitational” by beating Doss(Louisville) 48-40.
Lafayette’s largest win streak during the break was 4-straight. Lafayette’s three losses were against Scott County (#1 in Region 11), Bryan Station (#2 in Region 11), and Skills Factory (AAU team from Atlanta, GA). Lafayette has showed that they are a contender and they can hold their own against the toughest of competition.
Lafayette currently is on a three game win streak and they have a chance to avenge one of their 4 losses as they play top ranked Scott County. Scott County is 16-1 and has won eight straight games. The last time these teams played was a month ago on December 18th, Scott County won 75-60. Michael Moreno led the Cardinals with 26 points, and 15 rebounds. Eric Powell led the Generals with 14 points and Ray Surratt had 7 rebounds.
Lafayette will be playing Scott County in Georgetown, tip-off will be at 7:00 PM, so be sure to come out and support your Generals as they go to battle.
GIRLS BASKETBALL
The Lady Generals went 8-3 as well during the break and snow days. They went to Orlando for the “KSA Events Holiday Classic” where they went 1-2, but besides the road trip, the ladies did extremely well over winter break, only losing one more game after that. In fact, the ladies are undefeated in 2018; going 5-0 since January 1st. The ladies play Madison Central next, but for more information on that game, check out Noah Huffman’s article on the girls basketball team.
