Undefeated LHS Softball Team Competes in Tournament
April 10, 2018
During spring break, from March 30th to April 4th, Lafayette softball Junior Varsity and Varsity teams went to the Cal Ripken Tournament in Gatlinburg, Tennessee. The Tournament included somewhere around 50 teams, some JV and some Varsity. It was held as a showcase, so no team officially won, however the generals got to play several times and won several games!
Both softball teams have put in hours of practice and preparation for this tournament and the season as a whole. They practice 5 days a week for two hours each day. They do several fundraisers, like Old Kentucky Chocolate bars, a Texas Roadhouse fundraiser, cookie dough, and cleaning up the bleachers after the football games.
The softball team also has lots of fun. They do “big-littles” where two girls are paired together, one from JV and one from Varsity. They practice with one another and get each other gifts to support each other. Before each game, both teams pray before they play. They also have various occasions for team bonding, so the team can get closer.
Lafayette Softball has four Seniors this year. Kassi Eye who is a catcher. Kara Winchester who plays on first base. Sophia Carlton who plays on second base, and Teykia Gar-Carter who plays right outfield. All four are assets for the team and will be missed next year. Please wish softball good luck as they finish off their season. Go Generals!!!
