The Lafayette Marching Band attended their first competition of the season on Saturday, September 8th. The other bands that attended were: Nicholas County, Williamstown, Henry County, Lewis County, Harrison County, Anderson County, Grant County, and  Tates Creek.

They performed the first two movements of their show entitled “Mosaic” and debuted their new uniforms for the first time. Unfortunately, due to rain, the finals portion of the contest was canceled and the bands only performed for the preliminary round.

During prelims, bands are only scored against the bands in their class, while finals are scored as an open class. Technically the true placement of the bands is unknown, but based on the scores from prelims, it’s is fairly clear what the outcome would have been.

The scores are as follows:

Lafayette – 77.35

Anderson – 70.0

Harrison – 68.4

Tates Creek – 67.9

Williamstown – 59.65

Nicholas – 57.65

Henry – 55.9

Lewis – 49.7

“Despite the weather, it was exciting to see so many different bands perform,” says Maire Birdwell, a sophomore flute player in the band.
