The Lafayette Student Y is looking forward to another great year. The Student Y focuses on civic engagement, servant leadership, and character development. The club holds an annual voter registration drive, participates in over 1,000 hours of community service, and attends leadership and debate conferences.

On 9/11, the Student Y participated in the 9/11 National Day of Service. They meet every Thursday from 3:30 to 4:15. The sponsor for Student Y is Mrs. McPherson.

The club is preparing to attend the Kentucky Youth Assembly (KYA) at the end of November. KYA is a 3-day experiential learning program in which students serve as part of a model state government. One of Lafayette’s students, Ashley Barnette, will serve as the Speaker of the House for the conference.

When talking to the sponsor, Mrs. McPherson stated,  “KYA teaches students the importance of teamwork, civic engagement, and the power of one’s voice”.

If you are curious about the club, attend one of the the Thursday meetings in the library.
