A graph of distractions leading to teen crashes

Ariana Spencer, Staff writer

This week Lafayette’s PTSA will host a program for distracted driving. The event will be on Thursday, April 11 at 6 p.m. in the Lafayette High School library. The Kentucky State Police, the Kentucky Dept. of Transportation and the AAA of the Bluegrass have partnered and will be presenting the powerful presentation.

Triple A has launched a new program because April is National Distracted Driving Awareness Month “Don’t Drive Intoxicated – Don’t Drive Intexticated”

According to Triple A 59% of all crashes involving teen drivers involve some form of driver inattention and 12% of those crashes involve cell phone use by the teen driver.

The event is free and everyone is encouraged to attend. In this presentation you will hear from a student and family whose life has been changed by a distracted driver. There will also be a crash car parked on the front lawn of our school and you will hear the story behind what happened to the car.

Don’t miss this! You will also hear more from the Kentucky State Police officers. Also, at the event the AAA is hosting a drawing for five $25 gift cards
