Lafayette vs. Frederick Douglass Preview

Blake Bethune, Sports Editor

This Friday, your Lafayette Generals will be taking on the first year self-titled “City Champion” Frederick Douglass Broncos. The game will be away at Frederick Douglass, the kickoff is at 7:30. Frederick Douglass has had a very successful first season as they went 8-2. This will be Frederick Douglass’s first ever playoff game, as we will see if they have the resilience to move far into the playoffs. As for Lafayette, the playoffs is a comfort zone as we have been in the state championship game the last two years. Lafayette had a disappointing season as they went 3-7. But we have a very exciting story line going into this first-round match up; experience versus youth, old versus new, top dog versus new pup.

Lafayette and Frederick have already played once this year as Frederick Douglass took home the win 29-14 at Lafayette on September 8th. Frederick Douglass scores a lot and puts a lot of points on the board as they are averaging 29.3 points per game. Their defense is also good as they give up only 15.8 points per game. Lafayette is the opposite however, as they score 17.5 points per game, and they give up 21.7 points per game. But this will be a very emotional game as Lafayette has been the king of Lexington for the past couples years, and this brand new team comes out of nowhere and self-title themselves the “City Champions”, so that has to light a fire under Lafayette as they will come out swinging. This will be a close game that a lot of people have their eyes on, and Lafayette will come out firing and give Frederick Douglass a great game. The experience will show when Lafayette comes out on top in a nail-biter and advance to the next round.
