ABOUT US
The Lafayette Times is the official news source of Lafayette High School located in Lexington, Kentucky USA. Lafayette High School, which opened its doors in 1939, was named after the Marquis de Lafayette, a French general who volunteered to help the early colonists assert their independence in the Revolutionary War.
Lafayette has a diverse population of students and houses the district’s Pre-Engineering program and the School for Creative and Performing Arts (SCAPA) program. As of the year 2020, our school has the largest student population in Kentucky.
Just like the Marquis de Lafayette was inspired by the colonists fight for independence, the Times hopes to inspire our students to be engaged and supportive of the high school and its community. Our newspaper is completely student-run and is dedicated to the Lafayette High School community through our factual and unbiased reporting. Our staff values authenticity and meaningfulness, and is committed to providing dependable and timely news for our community.
Our newspaper began with a print edition in 1939 which continued to be published until 2006. Shortly after that time, our newspaper began transitioning to a digital platform. Eventually, we rebooted our school newspaper in 2017 and have spent the last few years re-branding ourselves.
We hope our readers Get With the Times.
