Noah Huffman, Staff Writer

The Lafayette Wrestling team is looking very strong and ready for the new season. Coach William Green says while there are no definitive leaders for the team, some of the seniors are stepping up into a leader role.

Last year, the team went 8-4 in competition, and was ranked at 11th in the state, but this year they are ranked 32nd and are looking to rebuild. There are four wrestlers out of five that went to State last year and are returning to compete this year: Thomas Haggan, Jack Raymond, Kevin Vasquez, and Mason Boggs.

The senior varsity wrestlers are Kevin Vasquez, Will Marshall, and Mason Boggs. The full team is, Amaki Allen, Arrion Allen, Michael Allen, Mason Boggs, Caleb Bowling, Zac Brown, Justin Chavez, Alex Dimayuga, Mason Gardner, Clark Gookin, Kyle Grizz, Thomas Haggan, Tyler Hanley, Jordan Houghton, Caleb Huffman, Mike Marcum, Will Marshall, Patricio Najera, Mason Pollock, Christian Potter, Jack Raymond, Noah Rhode, Aya Saunier, Alex Sparks, Spencer Stadstad, Zac Stray, Kevin Vasquez.

This past weekend the wrestling team participated in the Derby City Classic. Lafayette took 11 Wrestlers.  Six made it to finals and five received medals. Overall, Lafayette came in 6th out of 15 schools competing this weekend. The team also received the Team Sportsmanship Award.
