Have you been looking for new sports programs to join? Lacrosse is a great option. It is an upcoming sport that has been rising in publicity in the past years, with many high schools in the country gaining both boys’ and girls’ teams. Lacrosse will be an official Olympic sport starting in 2028. Lafayette has a girls’ Lacrosse team coached by Rebecca Mickleson and a boys’ lacrosse team coached by Will Lathram. Lafayette’s girls’ Lacrosse team was founded in 2017, and the boys’ team was founded in 2007.

BBLC (Big Blue Lacrosse Club) offers many over-the-summer opportunities for players, such as high school drop-in, where players play against each other in a scrimmage-like game. The games will be played in Shillito Park on Thursdays, June 3rd through July 8th, perfect for new players to become familiar with the sport during the summer before the official spring season starts. Also, BBLC has a skill session for both high school and middle school players, where players focus on the fundamentals of the sport. Sessions will be held on Monday nights, June 3rd through July 8th. Registration for both sessions ends May 30th, 2024, and it costs $100 to sign up. Both leagues require an updated KHSAA physical and a valid US Lacrosse membership

Bluegrass Bandits Lacrosse is a travel lacrosse program for high school students in Lexington, Kentucky. They work on improving players’ skills and love for lacrosse while helping players play in college if they want to. Practices for the girls’ summer program occur throughout June from 6:00-8:00 pm at Veterans Park. The cost is $300 for just the practices for the tournament player option; it is $300 and an additional $150 per tournament. If you are new to the program, the mandatory uniform will be an additional $50 fee. To sign up and join Bandits, you will need an updated KHSAA physical and a United States lacrosse membership valid through the summer.

Jokers is a new incoming league created by Joe Conley, who started the boys League Hillbillies. Jokers is a freshly made travel league for girls created in 2024. The coaches are Joe Conley, Lauren Mullikin, Kaleigh Sutton, Izzy Brogden, and Claire Abraham. The practice dates for May are the 28th and 30th from 5:00-6:30 pm. The practice dates for June are the 4th, 6th, 11th, 13th, 18th, 20th, 25th, 27th from 5:00-6:30 pm. Tournament dates are June 15 and 16th for the Southeast Shootout in Nashville, Tennessee, June 21-23 for the ATL Classic in Marietta, Georgia, and June 29-30 for the King of Queens in Lebanon, Ohio. Applications for the Jokers have closed for this summer, but is a great team to check out for the near future.

Lacrosse is becoming a very popular sport in high schools nationwide among both boys and girls. There are many summer programs in Lexington that you can join for the summer.
