On Saturday, February 15, Lafayette’s Junior Varsity and Varsity winter guard teams took the stage once again at Martha Layne Collins High School in Shelbyville, Kentucky, performing their shows “The Veil Between” and “Struck Gold”.
At winter guard competitions, teams are judged on a variety of different categories, ultimately creating a score out of 100 points. These categories include equipment analysis, movement analysis, design analysis, and general effect.
This competition was another great one for our Generals, with the JV team placing 3rd with a score of 62.42 in the Scholastic A 2 category, and the Varsity team taking home a 2nd place trophy with a score of 75.56 in the Scholastic A category. These different categories are created based on the difficulty of the skills being performed. The Scholastic A category that our Varsity team is a part of represents Division 1; the highest division a team can be a part of, whereas the Scholastic A 2 team that our JV team is a part of is where the Division 2 guards compete.
The time in between these competitions is anything but laid-back. With the winter guard teams being towards the beginning of their seasons, the groups concentrate mainly on building and maintaining the athletic ability needed for the rest of the season. This second competition has helped to pave the way for a successful rest of the season for our Generals, and we look forward to seeing how the rest of the season will play out. Stay tuned to the Times for more information on the rest of the winter guard season.
