Reginald (Reggie) Thomas is a Democratic Kentucky Senator for District 13. Thomas is an attorney and law professor and received his A.B. degree from Dartmouth College. He also received a J.D. degree from Harvard Law School. Senator Thomas, a widower, was married to Lynda Morris Thomas, together they have three children.

When Senators returned to Frankfort in March, the main issues to be debated are the ongoing pension debate and school safety. Senate Bill 1 and Resiliency Act passed out of the Senate Education Committee. This bill and its companion, House Bill 1, focus on school safety.

Senator Thomas filed three amendments, that in his opinion, improved the bill. The first amendment would have given students more of a voice by putting two students on the Center for School Safety board of directors. The second amendment would require a school nurse in every public school by July 2021. The third would require 20 hours of training by the safety and threat assessment team in every school. However, all three of the amendments were defeated.

Senator Thomas says “The pace will continue to pick up each day as we vote bills out of committee and send them to the floor. I encourage you to stay in touch and engaged.
