Lafayette has many amazing extracurriculars offered to its students. One of the most outstanding is the swim and diving team, which just had an amazing regional meet at the University of Kentucky.

In order for swimmers to qualify for regionals, they had to work all year to be the best. Swimmers would swim hours a day to be at the top of their event. Being the best and working hard guarantees a spot at regionals.

Swimmers met February 8th from 4 to 8 or the 9th from 1 to 5 to compete. They met in the Lancaster Aquatic Center at UK. Every team came from all around the region, including Lexington Catholic, Henry Clay, Beaumont, Dunbar, and Tates Creek.

There were many events that took place, such as 200 freestyle, 50 freestyle, 100 butterfly, 100 free, 500 meter, and 200 meter. Swimmers competing in these races were Connor, Nathan V, Nathan D, Alex, Mac, Jack, Michael, Josh, Anna, Teagan Fowler, Emma, Elise, Lily, Gabby, Katherine, Savannah, and Ally.

LHS had a great showing at the KHSAA Regional this past weekend, placing 3rd overall. Lafayette did an outstanding job, getting 6th out of 7 teams in girls’ swimming events. Several swimmers qualified for the State Championships. Lafayette had four all-region team qualifiers: Liliane Elayi, Emma Lykins, Jonah Dunn and Jack Brester.

A swimmer, Tegan Fowler, has a few words to say about her experience with swimming for Lafayetyte and the Regional meet. “Swimming is so amazing. I love the feeling of every stroke and meeting fellow swimmers at Regional meets. I am so amazed I made it to a Regionals meet, to be honest. I have worked so hard and so has my fellow teammates. I am just so proud of Lafayette and every swimmer who got here”.

Overall, Lafayette swimmers have done an amazing job of uniting as a team and making it to Regionals.  It took dedication and effort from every team member. The amount of work put towards this sport was clearly shown on February 8th through every Lafayette swimmer.
