The holidays are here and it’s the time of year to give back. Around this time of year, Lafayette has different organizations like Student Council, Beta Club, The Youth Service Center, National Honors Society helps out with giving back around the holidays.

The National Honor Society sponsored by Ms. Rachele Hardin is making loving and thoughtful cards for the retirement community. They also volunteer at the Catholic Action Center and help the homeless there.  They are also collecting food to help the Youth Service Center fill up the supplement bags. The Youth Service Center gives the students that are enrolled in the weekend backpack program the winter supplement bags. They will fill up the bags and that will help stretch the food over the break. The YSC will hand these backpacks out before winter break. In the backpacks the items include: 1 Re-usable Grocery Bag, 1 family size box of cereal, 1 box of spaghetti noodles & 1 can (NO GLASS) of spaghetti sauce, 2 boxes of mac n cheese, 1 jar of peanut butter & 1 box of crackers (Saltines or Ritz type), 2 cans of tuna or chicken, 1 package of instant pancakes, 2 cans of vegetables, 2 cans of fruit, 4 ready meals (canned chili, soup, or ravioli), 5 packages of instant oatmeal.

Beta Club is going to start making blankets and will give them out for those in need. Rebekah Watkins a member of the Beta Club said, “We do many things, such as donating, volunteer and even make items to give away. In fact, we are staying after school on December 12th [to make] blankets”.

Before Thanksgiving Break, the Student Y held a toy drive for Kentucky Refugee Ministries.

Our amazing Student Council has been fundraising all fall for their annual Dance Blue marathon. The proceeds benefit the Kentucky Chidren’s Hospital.
